Fire Risk Assessments

Fire Risk Assessment

The Firewise team will help you comply with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. We work with both large multi-national organisations and small local companies to provide them with a quantifiable fire risk assessment package.

Firewise Risk Assessors are qualified members of the The Institution of Fire Engineers and The Institute of Fire Safety Managers, experienced in fire safety matters and in dealing with local authority fire services.  We aim to provide you with the best independent, proportional, and technical solutions available.

Prevents fires, prevents injury, prevents losses

We Will

  • Carry out a thorough risk assessment and identify the general fire precautions you need to have in place by a competent fire risk assessor accredited on a risk assessment register .
  • Help prioritise your fire safety management issues.
  • Identify roles and responsibilities including those of Fire Marshals and the policies surrounding the use of Fire Extinguisher
  • Ensure that your fire safety practices are being carried out effectively on a day to day basis.
  • Set realistic action plan targets for completing the work required to reduce to a minimum the effects of any fire on the running of your business.
  • Allow you to concentrate on your core business activities.
  • Train your key staff to undertake this essential work in the future.
  • The final outcome will be a quantifiable fire risk assessment report with clearly identified priority issues that will provide you with a quantifiable checklist covering your business continuity issues. The report can then use as a benchmark in any future in-house fire risk assessment.

Certificate of competence

Competency

In the UK, three legislative regimes impose a duty to carry out a fire risk assessment. In England and Wales, the duties are imposed on the Responsible Person who, in a workplace, is the employer and in premises that are not a workplace is the person having control of the premises. The duty can also be imposed on other persons having control of the premises, such as managing agents. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, the term 'responsible person' is not used but, again, the duty will fall on the employer and/or certain other persons having control of the premises.

If, as a result of a failure to properly carry out a fire risk assessment, an occupant of the building or someone in the immediate vicinity is put at risk of death or serious injury in case of fire, an offence is committed which can lead to a heavy fine or, in serious cases, imprisonment.

The government recommends that fire risk assessments should be carried out by suitably competent fire professionals. IFSM have created the Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR) as a way to help people locate suitable professionals in their area. Firewise auditors are part of the risk assessment register which recognises the different levels of knowledge and competency.
